potato soup

i know i haven't blogged in forever. it takes tons of time to upload pictures. i don't have tons of time.

i saw the movie courageous, it has changed me forever.
now, just try to spend time with my kids and focus on being a great parent.
steven and i have also been trying to focus more on our marriage.
it's been a huge change but an awesome change!

anyway. i made potato soup. in the crock pot.
it's really good. here's the recipe.

12 red potatoes peeled and sliced
1 can of cheddar cheese soup
1 can of cream of chicken soup
1 can of evaporated milk
2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
5 oz of real bacon bits
1 & 1/2 cups of whole milk

boil the potatoes until fork tender
in the crock pot on low mix until smooth:
cheddar cheese soup
cream of chicken soup &
evaporated milk

add potatoes, cheese, bacon bits, and whole milk.
i used a hand mixer to blend.
stir occasionally.
enjoy.
the end.

wait! before i go... here's the cutest kids i know at the apple orchard this past weekend. i could eat them up :)

beautiful ballerina

emily started dance this week. she's growing up so much. she's in a class with several friends so there was no chance of her being shy. hiding behind my leg or anything. she was just so excited to be there.

her teacher is the most patient soul and said emily was wonderful in class. [i missed the memo for her to wear tights. it's on the list for next week. ha!]
she woke up the next morning and said, "mommy, can you sign me up for  more ballerina classes? i want to go everyday."

success? i think so...

tybee island 2011: part 2

so this is the short [ha!] of the long, of the rest of the trip.
sunday we slept as long as c and emily. you know at least 8 am. ha! it rained the night before so everything outside was wet. wet items while camping, sucks! but we made the best of it, showered, ate breakfast, and headed to savannah.
goal: don't get wet.
we got there around 10. we parked at the "blue trolley" station.  our plan was to take the trolley tour and use it as a way to "get around town easily". plus they had free parking. that soon failed. trolly's are open. no windows. when it rains and you can't simply roll up windows, so, you become...wet. luck for us it didn't start raining until the end of the ride. [c loved the trolley by the way. he was very quiet, and super observant. he was very busy looking left then right then back. emily also loved the ride, she played my iphone 90% of it. ha!] we quickly exited the trolly and ran to the car. we decided in the car we would just pay to park on river street and make our way walking.
we found a free parking spot in front of a fire station. it stopped raining[thank god] and we huffed it.

river street is very neat. lots to see. and lots to smell. and c got to see a big boat. that was awesome.

we stopped 4 places.
1. the candy kitchen [awesomeness]
2. a street vendor [he made bird feeders out of wine bottles]
3. spanky's for lunch
and 4. harley davidson store.
we then hung out by the river while steve walked all the way back to the car and drove to pick us up.

we were all really tired. luckily c fell asleep on the drive back to tybee, so i took emily to the pool for a little while. she couldn't have been happier.

steve took baby duty[he also napped]. we played in the pool for a few hours.
once c woke up we packed the car, and headed for dinner. we had a great seafood dinner, with decent live music. i, of course, had chicken.
after dinner we headed to the beach. it's so nice to play at the beach after 5 with kids. the sun/heat isn't ridiculous. and the masses are usually at dinner. we played until it was dark. i loved watching c run around. he l.o.v.e.d. the sand, the water, not so much. emily basically is a fish so all she wanted was to play in the waves. she wore herself out "getting the waves".

once it was dark we watchedthe fireworks. they. were. awesome.
the flying firework trash from them. was. not. awesome.

needless to say after that we headed to bed. and we were all glad.

monday morning we got up, packed up, showered, and headed to chris and carol's house to meet my parents. they graciously offered to take e and c to oatland, tybee's wildlife center. then drive them home. this way we could unload the camper, camping items, and car without "help".
they all headed out. they wore the kids out. they slept 3 hours home and were good to go once they arrived safely back.

well that's it. we had the best time. we made some of our favorite memories. emily is still talking about the trip. if c could talk he would still be talking about it. we can't wait to go back in a few years. :)

lastly, i want to give a shout out to carol, chris, and 'crazy cat" for showing us around, spending time with us, and loving us so much. you guys rock and we can't wait for you to visit. aaaand. if you need any furniture work call carol. she is awesome. i mean it. awesome.

school girl.

tuesday was "do what ever you want day" for 2 reasons.
1. i was exhausted after vacation and the thought of a schedule or planning made me want to vomit. and
2. it was officially[at our house] the last day of summer.

emily choose the following things for this day:
eat cereal from a bag.
watch 6 hours of television
play in the water table with warm water.
go to a grandparents house.
eat spaghetti, a hot dog, and ice cream for dinner.
and wear cowboy boots all day.
she is such a silly girl and it makes my heart warm that she enjoys simple things.

and as much as i hoped it wouldn't the day came. the day this sweet baby started prek. she was such a trooper. she loves school. she couldn't wait to see her friends, play, meet max, learn, and have a snack.

the sweet boy above missed his sister today. we both did. he got so excited when her teacher opened the door at carpool pickup. we celebrated a great 1st day with lunch at the pizza house and a little surprise. [the smurf wii game.]

she was totally excited about her surprise! can you tell?

when asked about school she said, "max was just a puppet dog." & " i can't wait to go back. tomorrow right?" she fell asleep at 8 tonight.
i can't wait to see what the year holds...
